CNST standards and assessments

The CNST General Clinical Risk Management Standards were withdrawn at the end of March 2006 and have been replaced by the NHSLA Risk Management Standards for Acute Trusts.

The CNST Mental Health and Learning Disability Clinical Risk Management Standards were withdrawn at the end of March 2007 and were replaced by the NHSLA Risk Management Standards for Mental Health & Learning Disability Trusts in April 2008 after completion of an extensive pilot assessment exercise in 2007/08.

CNST Maternity Clinical Risk Management Standards apply to NHS trusts (including PCTs) providing labour ward services and assess the way risk management activities are organised in these important services.  The previous version of these standards was withdrawn at the end of March 2008 and a significantly revised set of standards will be piloted during 2008/09.  Pending release of the final version of the revised CNST Maternity Standards in April 2009, assessments will be suspended for those maternity services not participating in the pilot assessment exercise.

Where Acute Trusts are assessed under both the NHSLA Acute and CNST Maternity Standards an appropriate discount will be applied to the relevant portion of their contributions.
