The NHS Litigation Authority

We are a not-for-profit part of the NHS. We manage negligence and other claims against the NHS in England on behalf of our member organisations.  

  •  We help to resolve disputes fairly
  •  We share learning about risks and standards in the NHS  
  • We help to improve safety for patients and staff
We are also responsible for advising the NHS on human rights case law and handling equal pay claims.

  • Healthcare Professional Alert Notices - new arrangements from 1 April 2013
    19 April 2013
    ​NHS England has written to NHS Trust Medical Directors and Area Team Medical Directors setting out interim arrangements for issuing Healthcare Professional Alert Notices.
     
    In the letter, the Secretary of State has directed the National Health Service Litigation Authority to operate the Healthcare Professional Alert Notices (HPAN) system from 1 April 2013.
     
    NHS organisations who wish to request the issue of an Alert Notice should notify the National Clinical Assessment Service (NCAS), part of the NHS LA, at hpan@ncas.nhs.uk or telephone 020 7972 2999.

  • New CNST Scheme Rules
    03 April 2013
    New CNST scheme rules came into effect on 1 April 2013.  These incorporate a number of changes for the benefit of members, including discretionary cover for Inquest costs and an expanded section on run-off cover.
