Risk management

  • The Health and Safety Executive is responsible for the regulation of almost all the risks to health and safety arising from work activity in Britain.
  • The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is a registered charity which provides information, advice, resources and training to promote safety in all areas of life. 
  • The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency promotes public health and patient safety by ensuring that medicines, healthcare products and medical equipment meet appropriate standards of safety, quality, performance and effectiveness, and are used safely.
  • The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence makes recommendations on treatments and care using the best available evidence.
  • MPS Educational Services, part of the Medical Protection Society, provide risk management education for organisations within both primary and secondary care.

  • The NHS Security Management Service (NHS SMS) is a division of the NHS Business Services Authority and is responsible for the security of NHS staff and property in England. This remit includes protecting NHS staff from violence and abuse; taking appropriate action against those who abuse or attempt to abuse NHS staff and helping to ensure the security of property, facilities, equipment and other resources such as drugs.

  • The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists encourages the study and advancement of the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology through postgraduate medical education and training development and the publication of clinical guidelines and reports on aspects of the specialty and service provision.
  • The Royal College of Midwives provides support and information to the UK midwifery sector, representing the interests of midwives and promoting excellence, innovation and leadership in the care of childbearing women, the newborn and their families.

  • The King’s Fund is an independent charitable organisation that works with individuals and organisations to shape policy, transform services and bring about behavioural change to improve healthcare.  The Safer Births programme, in which the NHSLA is a partner organisation, aims to improve the safety of maternity services by supporting frontline professionals.
