Human rights information
HRA FAQs
Since January 2003, the NHSLA has provided a free “Human Rights Act Information Service” to the NHS. One of the central aims of the HRAIS is to minimise the cost to the NHS of obtaining legal advice in relation to the Human Rights Act 1998, by providing NHS bodies with access to a centrally coordinated information service. It also seeks to encourage the sharing of good practice in this area.
The service provides access to a free database of human rights law of relevance to the NHS. It also publishes a quarterly newsletter to keep NHS staff up-to-date with developments in case-law which is sent out by email to human rights contacts in NHS bodies. A series of casesheets highlight key cases in specific areas of healthcare law, such as mental disorder, confidentiality or prison healthcare. Issue 30 of the NHSLA Review was devoted entirely to human rights issues.
To notify us of the nominated human rights contact in your trust or health authority, please email us at humanrights@nhsla.com. If you can’t find what you need on our database or in our publications, email the same address (NHS enquiries only please).
