About us

The Authority is led by a Board, which is currently chaired by Professor Dame Joan Higgins DBE.

We are accountable for our work to the Secretary of State for Health, who is in turn accountable to Parliament. Our Framework Document sets out our responsibilities and how we will achieve them, while our Business Plan is agreed annually with the Department of Health.  Further information is available in our current Annual Report and organisation chart.

Our Board meets six times a year and you can read the minutes & reports going back to 2003 for more information about our work.

Other key documents are our Risk management strategy and our Equality Scheme.  A list of our internal policies is also available.

Board expenses

As a public body the NHSLA is committed to ensuring it operates according to the Nolan principles of public life by being open and accountable for the way public funds are used.

Each quarter, the Authority will publish the business expenses claimed by our Chair, Chief Executive, Non-Executive Directors and Finance Director whose remuneration is reported in our annual accounts.

Read the latest expenses reports: January 2010 to March 2010 and April 2010 to June 2010.

Good corporate citizen

The Authority takes its responsibilities as a corporate citizen seriously and has an action plan to address issues of sustainability across all its activities, using the Good Corporate Citizen model developed for NHS organisations by the Sustainable Development Commission.
